Event Organizers for the Crisis Clinic of Thurston and Mason Counties: The Crisis Clinic seeks to have 2 annual public events and 3-6 small group events. These positions would plan, coordinate, and administer the events for the Crisis Clinic. Family Shelter Host for the Family Support Center of the South Sound: Want an opportunity to make a real difference for homeless families? Come staff our shelter! The Family Emergency Shelter offers 20 beds for families with children. The shelter operates from 7PM to 7AM and is staffed by two overnight volunteer hosts. Volunteers check families into the shelter (all families are pre-screened by the Family Support Center) and spend time with the guests from 7PM until "lights out" at 10PM. Volunteers may then sleep until 6AM (mats and bedding are provided). Everyone leaves the shelter by 7AM and the shift ends. Contact: Phil Owen, Director, Community Outreach, (360) 754-9297 ext 209.
Help improve the Crisis Clinic of Thurston and Mason Counties Connection to the Community: The Board of the Crisis Clinic is working toward stabilizing the Clinic's funding to avoid future economic rushes and sinkings. Help your Local Community become FIrewise: Volunteers will be helping the residence of Ryderwood clean-up around their homes and the community park. This fuel reduction project will help the residence in becoming a Firewise Community. Contact: Liz Smith, Project Leader, (360) 577-2025.
Medical Unit Volunteers Needed at Providence Centralia: Greeting and escorting visitors to patients' rooms on second floor. The volunteer will also be responsible for rounding on visitors and patients to offer beverages, light snacks, reading material, warm blankets, and other accommodations as appropriate. Outreach and Welfare Witnesses Needed at Parents Organizing for Welfare and Economic Rights: POWER provides weekly outreach to the Olympia welfare office on Monday afternoons and provides training, support and materials for individuals who want to do outreach in other communities. We also train people to serve as welfare witnesses, silent witnesses that accompany a recipient to appointments and fair hearings. Contact: Monica Peabody, Executive Director, (360) 352-9716.
