Some volunteers help us as many as 6 evenings per month and some members of the team are only able to come 1 or 2 evenings per month. It is not necessary to know another language to join the ESL Team. The inmates are incredibly grateful for any help they can receive in improving their reading, writing and speaking skills. It is also not necessary that you have any formal teaching experience. Often just sitting and having a conversation with a student is the most effective instruction. There are currently about 10 students who are participating and are so eager and grateful that they would attend 7 nights per week if we could offer the instruction that often!
